UPR Billet Lumbar Knobs

By Ken Payne

This is the second in a series of articles about dressing up your F150 with UPR Billet products.  The first article was about under hood billet and the installation was both easy and straight-forward.  This article is about replacing the seat lumbar adjustment knobs with billet knobs.

At first glance this seems to be an easy task.  However, taking the stock knobs off without damaging them is not as intuitive as it might seem.  The stock knobs are pressed on very tightly and it’s difficult to get anything behind them to grip them without scratching or gouging either the knob or the plastic cover behind it.  This article aims to provide a very easy approach to this.

What is needed is something which is tough enough to pull the knob off and soft enough not to damage them.  Additionally, any hole in the material needs to stretch over the knob and then be small enough not to slip back off when pulling on the knob.  Take a tube sock and cut a 1.5 inch long hole in it about half way down the length of the sock.  Slip the hole of the sock around the lumbar knob.  Pull the knob off using this.  It will require quite a bit of pressure to get the knob off but it will come off.  There aren’t any bolts or screws holding it in place, just a pressure fit.

Here’s the seat with the knob removed.

The UPR knobs are not press fit knobs.  They have a small allen head bolt which must be tightened down to hold the knob in place.  I added a little clear silicone to help hold the knob in place.  Silicone has the advantage of filling in the gaps without actually glueing the parts together which is useful should you need to remove the knob in the future.  Slide the knob into place and tighten down the allen head bolt.

Here is the final result….
