They had on the lot a 1999 F-150 XLT 4x2 SC 5.4L Flareside. I took a look underneath and saw the 4R100 tranny, not the 4R70W. I then went in side and asked about it. The truck does NOT have California emissions. So, I said to the dealer, I want the 44E tranny order code not the 44U on my 2000 F-150 XLT sport SC, 4x2 5.4L. (The 44E is the 4R100 tranny). He put the order in (without California emissions) and it said "ordering" when he finished to order. It did not reject the order. I don't think you need California emissions to get the heavy duty 44E (4R100) tranny on an F-150. Proof is the truck on my dealer's lot. I just want to know the difference between the 4R100(44E) and the 4R70W(44U)? I've never heard of this. My truck, a 2000 F-150 Lariat SC Flareside 4x4, was ordered last week. I just looked at the order sheet and it lists the 44U, 4 speed auto tranny. What does the 44E give you that the 44U doesn't?? A quick reply would be greatly appreciated, so that I might get the order changed before the truck begins production!
